About the Opportunity

The Faculty of Engineering and Science at the University of Agder (UiA) is inviting applications for two PhD Research Fellow positions in the field of accelerated aging of lithium-ion batteries. The successful candidates will be affiliated with the Department of Engineering Sciences and based at UiA’s battery research center on Campus Grimstad.

As part of UiA’s growing battery research initiative, these positions offer the chance to contribute to innovative research in close collaboration with industry partners in Southern Norway. You will join a dynamic team developing robust, long-lasting Li-ion battery technologies through experimental testing, electrochemical analysis, and material diagnostics.


What You Will Do

  • Develop and refine accelerated aging techniques for commercial lithium-ion battery cells
  • Investigate known and novel degradation mechanisms
  • Conduct advanced cell testing and post-mortem material analysis
  • Collaborate with UiA’s industry and academic research network
  • Present findings at international conferences and contribute to scientific publications

Who Should Apply?

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience with battery testing, electrochemical systems, or materials analysis
  • Data analysis skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming environments
  • Strong written and spoken English proficiency (TOEFL/IELTS score if applicable)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Authorship or co-authorship of research publications
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks)
  • Hands-on experience designing or operating test equipment

Personal Attributes:

  • Independent and proactive approach to research
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • Organized and detail-oriented with strong project management ability
