Join the Bayraktar lab at the Wellcome Sanger Institute as a Technical Specialist working on spatial transcriptomics and high‑plex protein imaging in neurodegenerative disease research. You will optimize and coordinate spatial omics data generation from patient tissue for large-scale ALS, AD, and PD atlasing.
Are you passionate about neurodegenerative disease research and cutting-edge genomics techniques? The Wellcome Sanger Institute invites applications for a Technical Specialist to join the Bayraktar lab, where you’ll play a key role in generating high-quality spatial transcriptomics datasets from patient brain tissue.
Supported by the Open Targets consortium, this 2‑year position is ideally suited for someone with a biology MSc (or equivalent experience) and lab experience, particularly in histology, tissue handling, and protocol development. While prior spatial omics experience is advantageous, comprehensive training will be provided.
Your initial focus will be on optimizing Xenium spatial transcriptomics and multiplexed protein imaging techniques in neurodegenerative tissue. As the project progresses, you’ll expand your responsibilities to supervising and coordinating large-scale single cell and spatial transcriptomics data generation, contributing directly to comparative atlases of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and ALS—some of the most pressing neurological diseases today.
