The Department of Ecosystem Management, Climate and Biodiversity at BOKU invites applications for a Senior Scientist position, suited for either postgraduate or postdoctoral candidates with a background in Forestry. The role offers a chance to lead long-term teaching and research at the Rosalia Forest Centre, based across Vienna and Forchtenstein.

This is a permanent, full-time (40 hours/week) role beginning 1 October 2025. The selected candidate will drive the strategic development of BOKUโ€™s Rosalia Teaching and Research Centre, coordinating European-level infrastructure (like the eLTER network) and engaging with stakeholders, researchers, and students.

  • Manage research, teaching, and operations at the Rosalia site

  • Coordinate eLTER site development and research infrastructure

  • Lead stakeholder engagement, facility management, and infrastructure planning

  • Conduct field-based workshops, education programs, and science outreach

  • Apply for third-party funding and support research proposals

  • Manage staff and collaborate with university leadership

Applicants must hold either:

  • A PhD in Forestry, OR

  • A Diploma in Forestry with substantial experience (or equivalent qualification)

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Field-based research and environmental science project work

  • Strong infrastructure or project management skills

  • Science communication and teaching experience

  • German and English proficiency

  • Strategic, independent, and collaborative work mindset

  • Without PhD: โ‚ฌ3,714.80/month (B1 level)

  • With PhD: โ‚ฌ4,932.90/month (B1 lit. b level)

  • Salaries are paid 14 times/year under Austrian public university regulations
