MSCA COFUND Doctoral Fellowships “AMP and ADP Heterogeneity in Cellular Microdomains”

Deadline : August 31, 2025
Join TalTech’s prestigious MSCA COFUND INNOCHEMBIO program for a fully funded PhD exploring spatial AMP/ADP heterogeneity in cardiomyocytes. Work across Estonia and France with advanced microscopy, modeling, and biosensing.

Fully Funded MSCA COFUND PhD in Cellular Bioenergetics — Study at TalTech & Université Grenoble Alpes

Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) is now accepting applications for a prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND Doctoral Fellowship as part of the INNOCHEMBIO programme. The selected candidate will undertake a groundbreaking PhD project investigating “AMP and ADP Heterogeneity in Cellular Microdomains,” in collaboration with Université Grenoble Alpes, France.

This interdisciplinary PhD will be hosted at TalTech’s School of Science, Department of Cybernetics, with a secondment (6–16 months) to Prof. Uwe Schlattner’s lab in France. The research combines cellular biology, advanced microscopy, fluorescent biosensors, and mathematical modeling to explore metabolic signaling within heart muscle cells.

What the Research Entails:
You’ll investigate how subcellular structures in cardiomyocytes create localized differences in AMP/ADP levels — a key factor influencing AMPK pathways and energy regulation. Using the novel AMPfret biosensor, you will map these nucleotide distributions under varying conditions, and model their impact on cellular metabolism and mitochondrial function.

Training & Benefits:
As an MSCA fellow, you’ll receive a minimum gross salary of €2500/month, plus mobility and family allowances. All tuition, research, and travel costs are covered. This full-time (4-year) PhD includes training in lab techniques, advanced imaging, programming, and systems biology. You’ll be part of an elite European research network with strong career support and cross-border collaboration.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • MSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Materials Science, or related disciplines

  • Excellent English proficiency

  • Not have resided/worked in Estonia more than 12 months in the last 3 years

  • Strong interest in cellular energy metabolism and interdisciplinary research

  • Experimental or modeling background (Python, C++, imaging, ODE/PDE systems) preferred

How to Apply:
Submit your application exclusively via TalTech’s Glowbase portal. Applications must include a CV, motivation letter, academic records, ID, eligibility form, and 2 reference letters. Detailed guidance is available on the INNOCHEMBIO website.

🗓 Application Deadline: August 31, 2025
