About the Position
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position in the exciting field of microbial biotechnology. The research will focus on the bioproduction and purification of siderophores—natural compounds crucial for iron acquisition and with wide-ranging applications in medicine, agriculture, and environmental remediation.
Applicants will join an interdisciplinary research team and have access to modern laboratories, mentorship, and development opportunities in one of Germany’s top-tier research centers.
What You'll Do
- Develop fermentation strategies for siderophore-producing microorganisms
- Optimize downstream purification protocols using chromatography and analytical methods
- Analyze structure-function relationships of siderophores using biochemical assays
- Collaborate with team members in biotechnology and analytical chemistry
- Present findings at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed journals
Who Should Apply?
- Master’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related disciplines
- Experience in microbial cultivation, protein purification, or chromatography is a plus
- Strong English communication skills
- Interest in applied microbiology and natural products
